Crittenton Foster Care Program Staff selected to present at the 10th Annual Childhood Grief and Traumatic Loss Conference.

“The level of expertise and experience that Crittenton subject matter experts and senior leadership bring to this agency is invaluable to our organization’s success,” said Martha Jasso, Director of Communications, CSCF, “Ms. Eykel and Ms. Schroder exemplify a commitment to a high standard of care and advocacy for children placed in today’s child welfare system. This type of trauma-informed expertise is seen not just in Crittenton’s Foster Care Program, but throughout the agency as a whole.”

The workshop CSCF Foster Care Program staff will be presenting is entitled; “Grief and Loss in Immigrant and Refugee Children” and covers the experience of children immigrating without parents to the United States.

This presentation is scheduled for 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm and will include issues of grief and loss (including family and culture), and obstacles to adjustment in a completely different environment in the care of strangers. The population that this workshop discusses includes children detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, international child victims of sex and labor trafficking, and children separated from their families due to war, political or religious discrimination. Complex issues of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and treatment strategies will also be covered as it relates to personal trauma, separation from family, and feelings of survivor guilt.

The Los Angeles County Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (ICAN) is able to come together again for the tenth year to talk about treating childhood grief and loss at the Pasadena Convention Center.

In addition, support for this year’s conference comes from the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, the Departments of Mental Health and Public Health, the Los Angeles County Office of Education, The Center for Grief and Loss for Children – a Program of Hathaway-Sycamores, and The California Association for Child Life Professionals to name a few.

More than 500 mental health professionals, grieving families, and community representatives are estimated to attend this conference in order to learn how best to aid families recovering from a traumatic death or loss. Eighteen workshops provide attendees with training to strengthen multi-disciplinary responses to grief and loss, and the conference will provide six continuing education units for attendees interested.

Registration is still open with different price points at $155 for general registration, $100 to $110 per individual in group registration and $100 for students.

For more information on the conference schedule, or to register the public is encouraged to visit the 10th Annual Conference on Childhood Grief and Traumatic Loss website.
